What is TMJ Disorder

Temporomandibular Joint disorders (TMJ), are conditions that affect the jaw joints, surrounding muscles, and ligaments in your face. What are the symptoms of TMD?

There is a wide scope of symptoms that can be caused directly and indirectly from TMD. These symptoms can include pain or tenderness in the face, neck, or shoulders, issues trying to open your mouth wide, locked jaws, popping sounds in your jaw joint, facial swelling, issues chewing, headaches, dizziness, and more.

What causes TMD?

There is a multitude of different contributing factors that can cause TMD. Arthritis, head trauma, bruxism (teeth clenching), poor genetics, bad posture, gum chewing, etc. can all cause TMD.

Is TMD responsible for my headaches?

There are many factors that can cause headaches, however, TMD is one explanation. Stress can contribute to teeth clenching which puts unnecessary pressure on the TMJs. This can start the vicious cycle of muscle spasms, pain, and headaches that all lead to TMD.

Gia was excellent not only on the phone but in-person as well. The dentist`s assistant was very interested in how they were best able to help me in my comfort and affordability with my in-network insurance. The dentist was able to recommend that I needed 1 less crown and filling and didn't even mention to try to sell me a night guard(I'll get one when I'm ready)They answered all my questions and even some I didn't think to ask. Their office and equipment are clean and comforting. I still have to get crowns, but I feel better about going to Starlite for them. Thank you ladies. Hi, a year later,  I still love this dentist and her people. I've now sent my husband as a patient and have brought my 3 yr old along for my cleaning.  She had such a good time and everyone was so patient and kind. Everyone is so great! It's been 3 years since my last review and this place is just as good as it was when I first started coming, actually even better. Over the last couple years they have upgraded their waiting room. In addition to free wifi, now we can wait with video games, a coffee with sugar-free syrups, and pre-pasted toothbrushes to get clean before you get cleaned.
